QR Code Generation
QR Code Generation turns a URL or any text into a QR code for free. Choose the code and background colours, place a logo in the centre, pick the error correction level and set the output size in millimetres, then save it as PNG, JPG, SVG or PDF. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. No sign-up and nothing to install.
How to Use
- Enter the text or URL you want to put in the QR code
- Choose the code colour and the background colour
- Select the error correction level (leave it at H if unsure)
- Set the output size in millimetres (20mm or more for business cards, 40mm or more for posters)
- Choose the file format (PNG/JPG for screens, SVG/PDF for print)
- Optional: upload a logo image to place in the centre
- Click the "Generate QR Code" button
- The QR code appears, so click "Download" to save it
QR Code Creation Tips
Prioritize Readability
- Use white or light colors for background
- Use black or dark colors for the code
- Ensure strong color contrast
- Inverted colors (white code on black background) not recommended
Error Correction Level Guide
| Level | Damage Tolerance | Use Cases |
|---|---|---|
| L (Low) | ~7% | Lightweight/simple uses |
| M (Medium) | ~15% | General use (default) |
| Q (High) | ~25% | When needing stable readability |
| H (Highest) | ~30% | When adding logos/partial coverage expected |
Logo Placement Notes
- Always use error correction level H (this tool switches to H automatically when you add a logo)
- A logo covers only about 4-8% of the symbol area (around 7% for a short URL), which the remaining error correction can recover
- Always scan the finished code on a real device before you use it
The Quiet Zone (Margin Around the Code)
- The standards (JIS X 0510 / ISO/IEC 18004) require a margin of at least 4 modules
- This tool adds those 4 modules automatically. Do not crop the margin off
- On dark paper or a dark page, keep the white margin around the code
Optimal Sizing
- Business cards/small labels: 20mm or larger
- Posters/printed materials: 40mm or larger
Keep Data Concise
- Use URL shorteners when possible
- Longer text reduces scanning accuracy
Output Format Selection
- PNG/JPG: For web/screen use
- SVG: Best for printing. Clean logo integration
- PDF: For direct document embedding
Test on Multiple Devices!
- Always verify on iPhone/Android/tablets etc.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is what I type sent to your server?
No. The QR code is built entirely inside your browser. The text or URL you type and any logo image you upload are never sent to our server.
Do the QR codes I create expire?
No. We simply encode what you type; we do not route anything through our site the way a URL shortener does. So a code can never stop working because of us.
How much text can I fit in?
It depends on the error correction level, measured in UTF-8 bytes: L=2,953 / M=2,331 / Q=1,663 / H=1,273. The tool tells you on screen when you go over the limit.
Can a QR code with a logo still be scanned?
Yes. A logo covers about 4-8% of the symbol area (around 7% for a short URL), well within error correction level H, which recovers up to about 30% damage. This tool switches to H automatically when you add a logo.
Which format should I use for printing?
SVG or PDF. Both store the QR code as shapes, so the edges stay sharp at any size. PNG and JPG are for screens and are written out at the pixel size that matches your millimetre setting at 300dpi.
Can I remove the margin around the QR code?
Please do not. The standards require a quiet zone of at least 4 modules; without it a scanner cannot tell where the code begins and ends. This tool adds the margin for you.
