Ratio Calculator is a site that provides free tools that allow you to easily calculate ratios. You can easily calculate with preset ratio calculation patterns such as the golden ratio, aspect ratio, smartphone size, and A series (A3, A4).

## What is a ratio?

A ratio is a number that indicates the relationship between two or more numbers or quantities, and expresses how much larger or smaller one quantity is compared to another. Ratios are generally written with a colon (:) as in "A:B" to show the proportion of A and B.

**Comparing magnitude relationships**Ratios show how two quantities are related to each other. For example, the ratio "3:2" indicates that the relationship between A and B is "A is 3 and B is 2", meaning that A is 1.5 times larger than B.

**Related with fractions and decimals**Ratios can also be expressed as fractions and decimals. "A:B" can also be treated as "A/B", and the difference in the ratio between A and B is easier to understand when expressed as a decimal. For example, "2:5" can also be expressed as "2/5" or "0.4".

**Scale and balance**Ratios are important for understanding scale and balance. For example, a ratio of "1:1000" on a map means that 1 cm on the map corresponds to 1,000 cm in reality.

Ratios are used to compare and understand the relationship between different quantities and to balance and scale things. Knowledge of ratios is useful in a wide range of situations, from everyday life to business and academic fields.

## Representative ratio patterns

**Golden ratio (1:1.618)**Used in art and architecture since ancient times as a beautiful and balanced ratio. Often used in social media icons.**Univisium (2:1)**A ratio where the width is twice the height, used for panoramas and certain movie scenes.**Ultrawide (21:9)**The same ratio as a cinema screen, used for ultrawide monitors that emphasize realism.**Cinemascope (2.35:1)**A ratio used in cinemascope filming, providing a wide field of view.**5:4**A ratio used in some computer monitors, close to 4:3.**A-series paper (1:1.4142)**The ratio of A4 or A3 paper, which keeps the same ratio even when folded.**3:4**The ratio used for portrait (vertical) photos, and has a shape close to a square.**9:16**The aspect ratio often used for vertical videos and smartphone displays.**IMAX (1.43:1)**The screen ratio of IMAX theaters in movie theaters, a ratio that ensures a wide field of view.**35mm film (3:2)**The ratio of images taken with a 35mm film camera, a classic photography ratio.**Social media vertical (4:5)**The ratio often used for vertical photos such as Instagram.**Panorama (3:1)**This ratio is used for panoramic photos and videos that spread horizontally.

## How to calculate the ratio

**Specify ratio**Select the ratio you want to calculate.*Example:*The golden ratio of "1:1.618".**Give one value**Give one value you want to calculate based on the ratio.*Example:*Let's say the value of B is "161.8".**Calculate the other number**To find A based on the ratio "1:1.618", divide B by the ratio value. $$A = B / 1.618

*Example:*If B is "161.8", $$A = 161.8 / 1.618 = 100**Calculate the ratio of the result**The ratio of A to B is therefore "100:161.8".
