Walking In Water Calorie

The "Walking in Water Calorie Calculator" tool allows you to easily calculate the "calories burned" by walking in water by simply entering the "exercise duration" or "exercise intensity." It also allows you to compare the calorie burned with walking on land.

How to Use

  1. Enter "Exercise Time", "Exercise Intensity", and "Body Weight".
  2. "Calories Burned" and "Comparison with Land Walking" will be displayed.

How to Calculate Calories Burned from Water Walking

How to Calculate Calories Burned in Water Walking

The calories burned in water walking are basically calculated using the following formula:

Formula:
Calories Burned (kcal) = METs × Body Weight (kg) × Time (h)

If using a correction factor, use the following formula (1.05 is the correction factor):

With Correction:
Calories Burned (kcal) = METs × Body Weight (kg) × Time (h) × 1.05

Steps

  1. Prepare your body weight (kg)
  2. Convert exercise time into "hours" (e.g., 30 minutes = 0.5 hours)
  3. Select the METs according to exercise intensity
  4. Substitute into the above formula and calculate

Reference METs for Water Walking

  • Slow (shallow water, low speed): 3.0 METs
  • Normal (waist level, standard speed): 4.0 METs
  • Standard (chest level, slightly harder): 4.5 METs
  • Brisk (chest level, faster pace): 6.0 METs
  • High intensity (shoulder level, with resistance tools): 7.5 METs
  • Fast walking / near running: 9.0 METs

Calculation Examples (Body weight 60kg, 30min = 0.5h, with correction factor 1.05)

  • 3.0 METs: 3.0 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 95 kcal
  • 4.5 METs: 4.5 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 142 kcal
  • 6.0 METs: 6.0 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 189 kcal
  • 7.5 METs: 7.5 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 236 kcal
  • 9.0 METs: 9.0 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 284 kcal

Reference: Land walking (3.8 METs) → 3.8 × 60 × 0.5 × 1.05 = Approx. 120 kcal

Tips for Variables

  • The deeper the water depth, the faster the speed, the use of resistance tools, or larger arm movements increase METs and therefore calories burned.
  • Use large movements and engage your arms fully underwater for more efficient calorie burn.
